60-Second Harmony Builder

The 60-Second Harmony Builder is a fast, flexible warmup designed to strengthen tuning, ensemble listening, and voice independence in just a minute of rehearsal time.
In this progressive SATB exercise, each section moves stepwise through a repeating harmonic pattern, gradually building and releasing tight suspensions as the chord ascends through multiple keys. As individual voices move one at a time, singers learn to maintain pitch, negotiate dissonance, and listen vertically within the ensemble.
The result is a highly effective tool for developing balanced chords, consistent tone, and confident harmonic awareness.
This exercise can be sung using moveable Do solfège, scale degree numbers, or another tonal system, and works beautifully on a variety of neutral vowels to encourage unified resonance and vowel matching.
